Was looking for this recipe. Was a Christmas favorite when I was a kid. I will be making it again. Thanks! Always sprinkled with power sugar! Yummy!

My mother made these orange slice cookie bars every Christmas. They are a favorite at my house. I found a hand written recipe for them that she had sent me over forty years ago. It is almost identical to yours but she did not put cinnamon in them . Made some tonight. Brings back so many good memories

Kevin

That sounds delicious!

Your recipe is delicious, but i kept thinking there was coconut involved with the ones from my memory. I found my recipe and managed to decipher through the water damage:
Orange Slice Cookie Bar (Aunt Dode)
Ingredients:
1 C. orange candy slices, shredded
1/2 C nuts
4 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp salt
2 C brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 T butter
2 tsp baking powder
1 T cold water (2 t. vanilla?)
2 cups flour
Instructions:
Cream brown sugar & butter. Add eggs, then sifted together dry ingredients. Add nuts and floured, shredded orange slices. Put into greased shallow pan. Bake 30 min in moderate (350ΒΊF) oven. After done, put on topping.
Topping
Ingredients:
3T melted butter
1/2 C brown sugar
1/2 C coconut
2 T cream
Instructions:
Mix together. Put on slightly cooled bars. Put back in oven until slightly browned. Cool and slice into bars.

omigawd! this sounds like “Aunt Dode’s Orange Slice Bars”, a recipe i lost a long time ago, but remember fondly from the 1950s… Aunt Dode was my mother’s great aunt who left many delicious recipes. I think she died in the 1950s at advanced age. It’s such fun to find this online, with another rich family history
thank YOU
