“This is simpler version of sweet potato pie but it is good too! I’m certainly looking forward to Thanksgiving! It’s my favorite time of the year. A time to stop and reflect on how much we have to be thankful for! I hope God has been as good to you as He has been to me!” ~ Mama Peggy

I’ve been updating Mama’s web site lately, and when I go to this recipe it struck me that I literally make this sweet potato pie at least once a year. Sometimes at Thanksgiving. Sometimes at Christmas. Sometimes both. It’s never once failed me. When I would ask Mama how to do something in the kitchen, she’d often say, “It’s the simplest thing in the world.” This recipe certainly is! I’ve never once screwed it up, and I’m not anywhere near close to being a great cook!

I’ve never added the pecans to mine, though I always think I will someday. It sounds tasty. I also always use frozen deep-dish pie crusts. I’m not as fearlessly adventurous as Mama was in the kitchen. The idea of making my own pie crust gives me heart palpatations. But this is an old-school recipes, and that’s how old-school cooks did it. Although some old-school cooks might consider using a pie crust mix to be cheating. lol. I will say in my defense that Mama used frozen pie crusts a lot later in life. Most people can’t tell the difference.
