Sugared pecans are the very definition of “the simplest thing in the world.” They’re easy to make, with just a handful of ingredients, and so yummy you’ll dream about them.

They say sugared pecans evolved from 17th-century French sugared almonds. French settlers brought the idea to Louisiana, but because almonds were scarce, they substituted native pecans. If you add a little cream to your mixture, these will be more like pralines.

Ingredients

  • ▢ — 1 egg white
  • ▢ — 2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
  • ▢ — ½ cup sugar
  • ▢ — ½ cup packed brown sugar

Instructions

  • ▢ — Whisk egg white.
  • ▢ — Stir in pecans and sugar.
  • ▢ — Transfer to foil lined baking sheet.
  • ▢ — Bake at 350 degrees for 9 to 13 minutes, or until puffed, stirring once.
  • ▢ — Cool completely.
